Located at the offices of Active Realty, right in the heart of downtown West Jefferson NC, this West Jefferson Cam is one of the North Carolina Mountain Web Cams to watch for traffic as it is located in a central region of town. It also is one of the scenic High Country Cams as it offers views of Mt Jefferson in the distance. West Jefferson North Carolina is located about 30 to 45 minutes away from Boone and Appalachian State University and offers a fantastic mountain lifestyle only 1.5 hours from cities such as Winston Salem, Charlotte, Galax VA, and the Tri Cities region of TN.

West Jefferson is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina. The area is widely known for the New River, which is considered the world's second oldest river and is one of a few that flows north.

The county of Ashe, where West Jefferson is located, borders both Tennessee and Virginia. Driving time to Boone, home of Appalachian State University, is approximately 30 to 45 minutes. In relation to other major cities, driving time is one and a half hours either to Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Galax, Virginia; the Tri-Cities region of Tennessee; and Charlotte, North Carolina. These drive times are quickly decreasing because of improvements to 2- and 4-lane highways leading to West Jefferson.
